The Machh massacre occurred on the morning of January 3, 2021 in Machh, Bolan Valley, Balochistan, Pakistan. The terrorist attack left 11 dead, where the victims were shot and throats slit. ISIS had claimed responsibility of the attack.[1:1] The Hazaras staged 6-day sit-in with the slaughtered victims bodies and demanded Prime Minister of Pakistan visit Quetta. The bodies were buried on January 9, 2021.
Machh is a small town, located 60 KM southeast of Quetta city in the Pakistani province of Balochistan[3:1]. Machh has over 60 coal mines that attract thousands of coal mine workers from Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhaw and Afghanistan since its discovery during British rule.[1:2] Hazaras have a long history, since British Raj[7:1], of working at coal mines in Machh which had resulted small neighborhoods of Hazaras in Machh township.
All the victims were in a mud room, the victims residential quarter, in Gishkery. The terrorist entered the room in the early hours of Sunday morning. All the victims were held on gun point, tied their hands in the back. They were shot as well as their throats were slit.[2:1][8:1]

The Hazaras staged a sit-in[5:1] in various parts of Quetta city. The protestors blocked western bypass highway by placing the bodies on the road.[2:2][9:1] The protestors demanded justice and arrest of the perpetrators. The weather of Quetta falls below zero and protestors include women and children as well. The protest continued for six days and ended after their demands were met by Government.[6:1]
The condemnable killing of 11 innocent coal miners in Mach Balochistan is yet another cowardly inhumane act of terrorism. Have asked the FC to use all resources to apprehend these killers & bring them to justice. The families of the victims will not be left abandoned by the govt.
The Turkish Embassy in Islamabad tweeted:
We are deeply saddened by the news that at least 11 coalminers lost their lives in a terrorist attack perpetrated in the Mach area of Balochistan today.
Prime Minister Khan, tweeted again.
I want to reassure the Hazara families who lost their loved ones in a brutal terrorist attack in Machh that I am cogniscant of their suffering & their demands. We are taking steps to prevent such attacks in the future & know our neighbour is instigating this sectarian terrorism.
I share your pain & have come to you before also to stand with you in your time of suffering. I will come again very soon to offer prayers and condole with all the families personally. I will never betray my people's trust. Please bury your loved ones so their souls find peace.
The traders union announced a complete shutter down strike where all business remained closed on Thursday[20:1].
PM Khan, during the inauguration of Special Technology Zones Authority in Islamabad, called the Hazara protest as 'blackmailing the Prime Minister'. PM Khan, demanded the victims be buried otherwise he will not visit Quetta[4:1][5:4].
We have accepted all of their demands. [But] one of their demands is that the dead will be buried when the premier visits. I have sent them a message that when all of your demands have been accepted [...] you don't blackmail the prime minister of any country like this.
Malala tweeted requesting PM Khan to visit Quetta
I am short of words to express my grief over the brutal killings of Hazara miners. This is not the first time that this has happened. But I hope it is the last. The whole country is in mourning. I request that PM @ImranKhanPTI meet with the victims' families as soon as possible.
